Stay in Briançon / Serre-Chevalier

Located at an altitude of 1,326 meters, at the confluence of five valleys, Briançon is classified as a City of Art and History and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is, in fact, remarkable in more than one way ... The highest town in France, it was fortified by Vauban in the 18th century and has an exceptional set of military works, built from the 18th to the 20th century to improve its defensive system. Its heart beats in the upper town or Vauban citadel, dominated by the castle fort, and surrounded by works waiting to be discovered: the fort des Salettes, the fort des Trois Têtes or the fort du Randouillet.

Once through the Porte de Pignerol, the very picturesque old town reveals many witnesses of its past.
