Stay in Briançon / Serre-Chevalier
Located at an altitude of 1,326 meters, at the confluence of five valleys, Briançon is classified as a City of Art and History and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is, in fact, remarkable in more than one way ... The highest town in France, it was fortified by Vauban in the 18th century and has an exceptional set of military works, built from the 18th to the 20th century to improve its defensive system. Its heart beats in the upper town or Vauban citadel, dominated by the castle fort, and surrounded by works waiting to be discovered: the fort des Salettes, the fort des Trois Têtes or the fort du Randouillet.
Once through the Porte de Pignerol, the very picturesque old town reveals many witnesses of its past. The 18th century Notre-Dame collegiate church, the 14th century Cordeliers church, the old residences rising up on either side of the sloping streets, the charming Place d'Armes surrounded by pretty colored facades evoking Provence, or even fountains and sundials, are all discoveries available to architecture lovers.
Fans of beautiful nature hikes will not be left out since the Auberge de la Paix, referenced "Route des Grandes Alpes" is located on the GR 50 route, thus offering great prospects for discovery to amateurs.
In winter, Briançon transforms into a popular destination for ski enthusiasts who appreciate its ski area, part of the famous Serre Chevalier Vallée Briançon resort.
With 250 km of slopes, Serre Chevalier Vallée is France's leading unrelated ski area. Slopes suitable for everyone, for all types of skiing, skiing in the valley or in larch forest, but also high mountain atmospheres with renowned off-piste.
Labeled "Family Plus", Serre Chevalier is very suitable for welcoming families who can enjoy many activities to share together or separately.
